After a string of unsuccesful attempts at reviving a franchise namely the underperforming "Ghostbuster" Franchise, Sony has finally got it right and have delivered a Global Hit in the form of Jumanji:Welcome to the jungle.

A month ago no-one would have expected the film to do this well either locally or internationally but the film has exceeded all expectations and has emerged as a huge global hit worldwide and surely starting a new franchise for Sony.

Made on a budget of around $100 million dollars the film so far has grossed $244.3 million in the United States and Canada, and $275 million in Other territories for a Worldwide total of $519.3 million and its nowhere done yet.

The original Robin Williams starrer had collected $263 million on a budget of $65 million back in 1995 in the same weekend of Christmas.

Now that the film is currently eyeing at $600 million worldwide a sequel is all but a great probabilty with the film also having a chance of crossing the $700 million mark when it opens in China next week.

Regardless of whatever the state its all said and done that Sony now has a huge franchise on its hands and they would surely love to make the most out of it.

It is already a cashcow for sony but they will have even bigger plans for it now that it has overperformed worldwide.

Though the surprising factor of the new Jumanji film is that how well it has been received by critics, The original though very favourable among the audience gaining a A- cinemascore was never a critical hit as it received a 50% aggregate from Rotten Tomatoes.

The new Jumanji directed by Jake Kasdan currently has a score of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes which is damn good for a Family popcorn flick.

Now all eyes are Sony as to how they handle this franchise, Will they take it to new heights or will they make a mess of it, I guess only time will tell..........
